Made of Stone

Yesterday, we were lucky enough to get free tickets to attend a showing of the new Shane Meadows (This is England, Somers Town) film, 'Made of Stone'. The film follows the reunion of the Stone Roses, leading up to their Heaton Park shows last year. There is a great mix of 'fly-on-the-wall' style footage of the band rehearsing for the shows, as well as some old footage from their early days. There were some really big fans in attendance, but even for us (a fan, but only just!) the film was really enjoyable, with some actually very funny moments.

The best part for us, however, had to be the location. The actual world premier had been the evening before, and so we were able to walk up the red carpet to get in! Victoria Warehouse is the regular venue for the Warehouse Project, which we have been to a few times. We had never actual seen the venue in daylight!
The usually empty large main room was filled with chairs pointing at the screen on stage. Shane introduced the showing and said that he had chosen Victoria Warehouse as the venue, rather than a cinema, as he wanted it to be very Mancunian, with an almost rave feel to it (being 11am, it was difficult for this to have full impact, but I get what he means). The whole setting really added to the experience. Not bad for a free showing!
