The Ship Tavern. Holborn

Tucked down a back alley, just around the corner from Holborn tube station, is nestled the quaint old pub, the Ship Tavern. Fear not, readers, this will not be a review of my weekend's drinking activities. I visited this place on a Sunday lunch time. Just next to the main pub is a staircase leading from the street up into a cosy dining area. The room is decorated in dark reds and wood, with lit candelabras dotted around.

The Sunday roast here is quite simply superb. The portions, be warned are huge! Plenty of food and, for central London, very reasonably priced.

Speaking of which, the bill at the end comes inserted into an old book. A nice touch and I guess if your bill doesn't make for good reading then you have an alternative.

When we visited there was a large booking, and so the place was full. However, I think that although booking is usually necessary, you can just as easily turn up for a table. I would definitely return here!
