No intentional, but remaining on the sea theme from yesterday, a quick recommendation for a great read. The Lonely Sea is the real life story of a spearfisher-woman who gets lost at sea. The story spans just a matter of days, so the level of detail is about as intense as one can take at 8.30am on the Jubilee Line. It is this level of detail, however, which brings this scenario to life. It is pretty much impossible to communicate the level of desperation, fear and desperation which she must have been feeling, but Allum does a pretty darn good job of trying to put into words the nightmare of Sue Docker's situation.
Set in one of the most stunning parts of the world I have ever visited, The Lonely Sea not only tells this horrific story, but also somehow manages to describe the immense beauty and unique environment of the East Australian coast. A definite page turner, this short and intense novel makes me want to return to Queensland, but not take up spearfishing!
