Polo Bar

I have toyed for a while now with visiting this pokey little cafe opposite Liverpool Street Station. Nestled between an EAT and KFC, the large sign means have have long since noted it's existence but remained dubious. Even when seated and presented with what appears to be a greasy spoon cafe menu with the prices of a mid-range restaurant, my reservations remained. I had read so many good reviews, and the room is so fantastically decorated, yet it looks likely I will pay more than £5 for a sandwich.

The moment of realisation, however, came when the food arrived. Suddenly it all fell into place. Good reviews are not always right, but they usually have something to go on. Yes, the room is pretty impressive, with it's white tiled benches, HP bottles, open kitchen and tasteful (not pretentious) vintage paraphernalia. Yes, the waitress was delightfully attentive and friendly. Yes, it has the novelty of remaining open 24 hours (yes, it really is). Ultimately, however, Polo Bar is serving up darn good grub. We ordered a BLT and a pulled pork sandwich, with a side of chips. When the food came, the portion size immediately dispelled concerns about the pricing (definitely good value) and when we tried the sandwiches, the quality immediately dispelled concerns about the cafe being worth the hype.

Polo Bar is open 24 hours, which is amazing, but this place is by no means built on that novelty. It serves great tasting food, which is value for money and comes with an interesting environment and friendly staff. We will definitely be returning, just not quite sure what time of day/night we will try next!
